Sustainability has been at the heart of Pfleiderer’s business since it was founded over 125 years ago.

We are a pioneer and a leader in our industry with respect to the use of recycled wood. We have delivered significant reductions of our CO2 footprint over recent years. Today, around 95% of the energy used in our production processes is generated from renewable resources.

Nevertheless, we recognise that companies like Pfleiderer must play a more active role in constructing a truly sustainable society to fight the increasing shortage of raw materials, the overexploitation of nature and the dire consequences of climate change. We have to act responsibly, and cultivate a safe, healthy work environment where people from diverse backgrounds can thrive.

We support the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and promote them in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption wherever possible.

We are clearly committed to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and strive to become climate-neutral.

With our new sustainability strategy, we have firmly incorporated the subject of sustainability into our corporate governance and operations. Our sustainability strategy sets our commitments that shall guide our actions and decisions in the years to come. Our sustainability strategy shall not remain a general conceptual framework. We have therefore translated our commitments into tangible actions and have set ourselves quantifiable targets that have a scientific foundation, and are committed to reporting transparently on our target achievements on regular basis.

We developed our new strategy by analysing our strengths as a sustainable business, as well as the impact we have on our planet and our stakeholders. From there, we identified three clear focus areas: materials, climate and people. These three focus areas are closely aligned with our business strategy and build on the commitments we made in our Sustainability-Linked Financing Framework earlier this year.

As a testimony to our commitment, sustainability targets have been added to the metrics used to derive performance-based management remuneration since the beginning of this year.

We are looking forward to opening the next chapter of our sustainability journey.
