CREATING ADDED VALUE TOGETHER

AN EXPERT PROFILE OF HOFA HOLZIMPORT GMBH, HAMBURG

PFLEIDERER IN CONVERSATION WITH DIRK ROMPEL AND TIM STAHLSCHMIDT

Pfleiderer: Mr. Rompel, HOFA has been working with Pfleiderer for almost 25 years. From your perspective as sales manager, what do you think is Pfleiderer’s strongest selling point?

Dirk Rompel: We find time and again that our customers in the trades and furniture-making sectors are particularly impressed by the collection. Pfleiderer consistently succeeds in capturing the spirit of the times in a cohesive collection. This applies just as much to the individual, stylish highlights as it does to the portfolio as a whole. Solid-colour, woodgrain and patterned decors are perfectly coordinated; the selection within each category is balanced, and ultimately it is easy for our customers to use them to realise their desired design concepts. With a portfolio like this, it’s a pleasure to present these products to our customers.

Pfleiderer: Mr. Stahlschmidt, you advise specialist partners on decorative products. Are there any other benefits that your customers appreciate about Pfleiderer?

Tim Stahlschmidt: Absolutely – and they’re valued not only by our customers. The Express Collectionoffers the perfect combination of a wide selection and excellent availability. Our partners, too, are increasingly working under time pressure these days. This means they’re not just looking at what works and looks good; it’s also important whether and how the whole thing fits their project timelines. So it’s very reassuring for us to know that a wide selection is in stock and that, if needed, we can have the required product here in Hamburg in a very short space of time.

Pfleiderer: Which Pfleiderer products are of particular interest to HOFA’s customers in the furniture and interior design sectors?

Tim Stahlschmidt: It’s hard to generalise. Wood-effect finishes are in high demand. Both in terms of feel and appearance, we’re talking about a fantastic premium product here. However, the directly coated panels are also a highlight. Generally speaking, I’d say we really excel with DecoBoard, PrimeBoard and HPL. They’re all of the same high quality, and within theDST system (decor, surface texture, core technology), our partners can combine them in almost limitless ways. This creates the ideal conditions, both for small-scale craft businesses and for mass production.

Pfleiderer: Could you give an example of this?

Dirk Rompel: Yes, of course! Our customer, Cramer Holzmanufaktur, manufactures furniture. They benefit precisely from the points mentioned. Cramer relies on the excellent availability of the fast-delivery programme and a core selection of six plain finishes, which are available across all Pfleiderer products. They use direct-coated DecoBoard and lacquered PrimeBoard in various thicknesses. PrimeBoard is particularly attractive to Cramer because it eliminates the need for in-house varnishing, thereby gaining greater flexibility in pricing. It can also be easily machine-processed at Cramer without leaving marks on the varnished surfaces, as it comes fitted with a protective film ex-works. This can simply be peeled off afterwards.

Pfleiderer: HOFA attaches great importance to the responsible use of wood as a natural resource. How important are sustainable options to your customers?

Tim Stahlschmidt: We do indeed take a proactive approach to engaging with our customers. With a product like OrganicBoard Pure, that’s actually quite straightforward. With its Blue Angel certification, premium quality and bio-based adhesive system, there is currently nothing quite like it on the market.

Dirk Rompel: This is very clearly a key focus for us. We do realise that, for a variety of reasons, some partners cannot make the switch overnight, but we’re staying on the ball. After all, our ambition is to switch as many orders as possible. OrganicBoard Pure simply provides the best arguments for doing so – and this issue is definitely right at the top of our to-do list for the coming years.

Pfleiderer: Mr. Stahlschmidt, Mr. Rompel, thank you very much for speaking to us.

VISITING HOFA AND CRAMER

What role do sustainability and finishes play in practice?

To explore these questions, we visited Holzhandel Hofa in Stapelfeld and Cramer Holzmanufaktur in Elmshorn at the end of 2025. Through face-to-face discussions, we gained valuable insights into how the businesses operate and discussed key issues facing the industry – from sustainable materials to the latest demands on design and functionality.

Hear authentic voices from the trade and discover which aspects really matter in day-to-day practice.
