FAR FROM MARGINAL: THE PRODUCT’S CARBON FOOTPRINT
There’s a lot of talk when it comes to climate protection. We let the figures speak for themselves, because not all wood-based panels are the same. Most may look similar – but their carbon footprint tells a different story. At Pfleiderer, we go one step further! What others merely claim, we measure and prove. That makes us the first choice for a more sustainable future!
When it comes to carbon emissions, the difference is real. And measurable. Compared to the German industry average, Pfleiderer products can reduce CO2 by up to
27% for particleboard
38% for melamine-faced board
64% in comparison to standard OSB
That is not just an incremental improvement. This is structural change – measured, verified and documented. Innovation Made in Germany, without compromise on quality!
Looks the same. Performs differently
Not all wood panels are created equal. Most of them look alike – but their carbon footprint tells a different story. What may seem insignificant at first glance becomes clear when you consider the annual consumption figures for furniture and interior fittings, as well as timber construction and related sectors.

If we were to meet Germany’s annual demand for raw particleboard, coated particleboard, and OSB with Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious products, we would save roughly 880,000 tons of carbon. That’s the equivalent of 5.5 billion kilometres by car – or roughly the equivalent to the total traffic amount of cities such as Barcelona, Manchester, Munich or Vienna.
Switching Germany’s annual demand for raw particleboard, coated particleboard, and OSB to Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious products has the potential of saving 880,000 tons of carbon. That’s the same emissions as 26 million flight kilometres – or more than 648 times around the world.

Climate-conscious wood-based materials have the potential of saving 880,000 tons of carbon every year in Germany alone. If we substituted industry standard raw particleboard, coated particleboard, and OSB with green solutions from Pfleiderer, we could save the emissions of 3.6 million container ship kilometres – or roughly 600 passages across the Atlantic.
Replacing Germany’s annual consumption of raw particleboard, coated particleboard, and OSB with Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious alternatives could save 880,000 tons of carbon emissions—roughly the same amount produced by launching an Apollo 11 mission to the Moon every day for almost 15 months.

By choosing Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious alternatives to industry-standard raw particleboard, coated particleboard, and OSB, professionals in timber construction could reduce the carbon footprint of a timber house by 1 tonne of CO₂. All while maintaining the quality and performance required in modern timber construction.
By choosing Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious alternatives to conventional raw chipboard, coated chipboard and OSB, kitchen professionals could reduce the carbon footprint of each kitchen by up to 98 kg of CO₂. All while maintaining the quality and performance required in modern kitchen production.

For one new school building, the right material choice could make a 23-tonne difference. By choosing Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious alternatives to standard raw chipboard, coated boards and OSB boards, this reduction could be achieved while maintaining the quality and performance modern timber construction requires.
That is the potential reduction for a medium-sized furniture manufacturer switching from conventional raw chipboard, coated boards and OSB to Pfleiderer’s climate-conscious alternatives. The result: a significantly lower carbon footprint while maintaining the quality required in modern furniture production.
