Uniboard puts MDF/HDF plant in Moncure into operation

Neumarkt, Moncure/North Carolina, February 22, 2010 – Uniboard, a subsidiary of MDAX-listed Pfleiderer AG (ISIN DE0006764749) and a leading producer of engineered wood products in North America, put a new plant into operation for medium-density and high-density fiberboard (MDF/HDF) in Moncure, North Carolina, USA, on February 17, 2010. The relocation from La Baie in Canada and the reinstallation and start of operation of the plant at the new location took just over one year.
With an annual production capacity of 400,000 cubic meters of fiberboard, Moncure is the biggest and technologically most advanced MDF/HDF plant in North America, and is Uniboard’s third production site in the United States. The site’s capacity for particleboard, which has been in existence for a longer period, is more than 300,000 cubic meters per annum. The new plant in Moncure is part of Pfleiderer’s mega site concept, which is leading to advantages in cost and competitiveness due to higher efficiency.
The Moncure site covers customers’ complete requirements from raw particleboard to surface-finished panels and now also MDF/HDF. This means that customers in the major US market in the southern and mid-western states in the kitchen, office and home furniture industry can now be supplied directly at competitive prices. The production sites of Pfleiderer subsidiary Pergo in Raleigh are now also significantly nearer at approximately 50 kilometers from the new MDF/HDF plant. With the delivery of high-density fiberboard for the production of laminate flooring, Pfleiderer profits from falling transport costs and higher reliability of supply. In addition, this mega site also further reduces the exchange-rate risks between Canada and the United States.
